Red “I” message; unable to complete the backup, an error has occurred while copying files to the backup volume, how to resolve it?

I have tried to backup the data and also tried to copy the files for the backup volume but every time it shows the error “Red “I” message; unable to complete the backup”. Now my data has lost completely and I am unable to understand as to how to resolve the problem. Can anyone help me in solving this error?
