Receiving Backup error 6971 while updation?

Software update for my 2.2 iPod touch ought to be great as the update option includes backup and restore of songs and settings from iPod, and with a click on update option it started but soon it stopped and said that error occurred while backing up the iPod and asked ‘would you like to continue update process without backup’, doing so will delete all data from iPod which I don’t want.

jia111 		I also acknowledged the same problem while iPod backup during update, and from fear of loosing the data I stopped the process over there. Only after transferring iPod files I continued the process, no need to worry as it’s not your fault, many users are facing this problem hope it gets resolved soon.
